![]() A four-sided mural depicting The Bahamas' 2012 Olympic gold medalist four-man relay team. This photo of the Olympians was taken at the artwork's official inauguration, in April 2018. | ![]() After months of planning, the project was set in motion. Ten-inch wood beams were delivered and prepped with sanding, sealing and priming. |
|---|---|
![]() A crew from the Grand Bahama Port Authority were called in to move each beam to an indoor location for the more detailed task of painting the artwork. | ![]() Beams were lain flush and the first distorted image was transferred onto the multiple surfaces. |
![]() Finally, the fun part of painting! | ![]() First portrait well underway. |
![]() First portrait completed. Each image took about six weeks from transfer of drawing to curing of final varnish layer. When ready, the Port Authority crew were called back in to rotate the 14-foot beams and the painting process began again for the next image. | ![]() Until erected in their vertical positions, the anamorphic images remain grossly distorted. |
![]() A sneak peek of the concept at actual size assisted architectural engineers with establishing details of installation with contractor. | ![]() Construction of the artwork's base and support pillars on location. |
![]() Transporting the beams to the finished support structure. | ![]() Hoisting the beams into place via crane. |
![]() In sequential order, each of the four portraits were further revealed as the next beam was placed into position. | ![]() |
![]() Almost done! | ![]() From proper distance and calculated eye level, the Olympians' portraits are no longer "grossly" distorted. |
